Apple Pie Back to Recipes

Use our cortland apples for this tasty pie!

Ingredients:

5 to 6 cortland apples
1/2 to 2/3 cup white sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 to 1 1/2 tablespoon flour
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 to 3 slivers butter
3/4 tablespoon lemon juice

Pie Crust (option to make your own or buy from a store):

2 /3 cup crisco
2 cup flour
1 cup orange juice
Makes 2 layers

Instructions:

Peel, core and cut apples into very thin pieces. Combine and sift the sugar, salt, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice. Stir the apples gently until they are well coated. Place the apples in the pie shell and dot them with the butter slices. For the crust: Cut crisco into flour and salt. Add orange juice. Tip: You may want to cut recipe in half for each layer. Prick upper crust with a fork. Bake pie for 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes.
